Gideon ShoesOfficial Launch CHURCH ON CHALMERS, SURRYHILLS: THURSDAY, DECEMBER 9 Yo u’ve probably heard about brothers Matt and Rupert Noffs who use cane toads to make sneakers. The duo unveiled their luxe (and ethically sound) Australian collection of fabulous sneakers from their brand Gideon at amedia launch complete with celebs, plus delicious Asian-inspired lunch of Lotus & Ming dumplings and tea. Their shoes use the much-talked about cane toad, cow and kangaroo hide. WIN: We love the ethics behind the brand. With arousing company code that is all about the condemnation of sweat shops, all Gideon shoes are made here in south-west Sydney — supporting the local economy and profits from sales go towards the Te dNoffs Foundation helping Australian youth get back on their feet. SIN: One guest thought there was aBikram element thrown into the mix as conditions in the Church were pretty hot. Another thought they’d been particularly sinful as they felt they were burning up on consecrated ground. Thank the heavens for portable air-conditioning! Raffles RAFW 2011 Designer Announcement CARRIAGEWORKS, EVELEIGH: THURSDAY, DECEMBER 9 It was anight of breathtaking demi-couture as three past and present Raffles Bachelor of Design (Fashion Design) graduates were offered aplace on the runway in aspecial Raffles graduate showcase at next year’sRosemount Australian Fashion We ek. Byron McGilvray,Peggy Hartanto and Winston Ta nimpressed the judges and a stylish audience of 300. WIN: Each of the chosen designers made a statement by incorporating amore multicultural blend of models to display their collection instead of the traditional archetypal “Australian model”. We loved the fact that there was so much talent parading on the catwalk that we hadn’tseen before and hope this is asign of things to come. SIN: Sack the audio guy! The music stopped abruptly during the catwalk show but the models were troopers and kept to the beat and kept the show going.
