DANCE movies are hit-and-miss experiences. The first Step Up with Channing Ta tum was actually quite an interesting watch. The sequel failed to live up to the premise of the first, and now the third falls somewhere in between. Heavily marketed as Step Up’s first foray into 3D (you can experience 3D at home on Blu-ray with a3DTV), the third instalment features a fresh crew of street dancers, including Australian ex-Home and Away star Sharni Vinson. A loose plot and predictable dialogue culminates in amassive New Yo rk underground dance- off, which I’m sure is the reason one would watch this film. In this respect, it’seye-poppingly good. Expect body-locking, body-popping breakdancing and amazing stunts –easily better than Step Up 2,but don’tgolooking for any Oscar-winning performances, because this is strictly fun popcorn material. DVD CD TheBeginning TheBlack Eyed Peas (Universal Music) TheBlack Eyed Peas have always been knownas experimentalists andtheir new albumisanunapologetic homage to club culture, pickingupwhere TheEnd left off. Delvingdeeperintoelectronicbeat, they’re incredibly at home on tracks like thedriving bass of Somebody andthe Blondie-sampled Fashion. Asolid effort. Morehip-hop than rap, it has several tracks with surprisingly good ’80s samples, including Yo ur Love and Check It Out with Will.i.am. One to watch.
